So glad you have signed up to receive the For Random Learning Comes Newsletter!

This is the sixteenth edition. Previous editions can be found on the blog's Newsletter page. If you don't get my email on Saturday morning please let me know! (Check your junk and spam folders too.)

My name is Andrea LeDew. My blog is a mixture of poetry, short stories and essays. I usually write two to three posts a week. My five latest posts are at the end of this newsletter, latest first.

I wrote three new poems this week.

My first poem (the most recent) is called Math. It plays with the numbers associated with the Delta variant, as we plunge headlong into a new school year.

My second poem is called Pretend. It talks about people who ignore present conditions and still expect everything to turn out okay.

The third poem was actually published last Friday, but I didn't mention it here. It is called As Dumb As Ever, and it deals with the resistance to vaccinations playing out throughout this country. It imagines a fan of sports, who is strongly opposed to vaccines, until something changes his mind.

Stay safe out there! In case you can't tell, from the foregoing content, I "strongly recommend" everyone get the vaccine as soon as they can. That is, in case the government in your area doesn't have the chutzpah to mandate it. *********

Let me know how I've done--it's always so interesting to hear how people react, to what I've written.

There's a black comment box at the bottom of the white space on each page on the site. It says "I'd love to hear your thoughts!"

And let me know if you encounter any problems--there's a contact form on the About page, too.

You're always welcome to poke around on the site with or without your Saturday morning brew.

This poem is full of figures.  We have become consumed with watching the numbers, especially since the Delta variant came into our lives. I came up with the idea for this poem, while watching an hour-long question and answer session on the Delta Variant on MSNBC.  Many of the figures are lifted from that conversation. Ninety-three million …

This poem criticizes those that go around with blinders on, ignoring reality, at the price of endangering those they love.   Thanks for coming by to read. Let's pretend that it's normal, That things are okay, And that masks and vaccines Are not needed, today. Let's say, that we're safe, And pretend that we're fine, And not worry, how …

As Dumb As Ever

A little tongue-in-cheek humor, based on a comment by sports commentator, Mike Lupica.  He wrote an article in the New York Daily News called Kirk Cousins' comment on COVID-19 protocol is exactly why every athlete should get vaccinated. Worth a read, if you want a strong refutation of the popular "personal choice" argument against getting vaccinated. The first …

Fair Warning

Watching Morning Joe on MSNBC on August 6, 2021 (this morning) I saw an interview with an evangelical, about the outsized number of anti-vaxers, or vaccine hesitants, who are also evangelical.  He said that being against vaccines and masking is a cultural thing among some evangelical groups, a sign of ones identity, of ones belonging to the group.  He …

I came up with this idea while thinking about the news of the week.   --Capitol police, testifying about a mob, who voted the same way some of them did.  A mob, who attacked the Capitol Police, even as they carried Blue Lives Matter flags.  And while the Capitol Police testified about their harrowing, near-death experiences, prominent politicians mocked them …
