My name is Andrea LeDew, and my blog has a mix of poetry, short stories and essays. I write two to three posts a week when all goes well.
Unfortunately this week, though I wrote three lovely poems, I sent two off, on a whim, to a magazine, who insists on no pre-publication. We will have to wait and see whether that was a good idea or not. :) I'll let you know either way.
My latest five posts are below, including one brand new as of this Friday. I apologize in advance for the slightly blurry goose. It was the closest I could get, without scaring the poor devils away.
Hope you enjoy this week's installment with your Saturday morning brew.
That reminds me, I signed up for a wonderful Mother's Day present to myself: A monthly scone subscription! Now, if that isn't an English Major thing to do, I don't know what is.
Thanks again for your moral support and comments and be sure to encourage your friends to subscribe.

The Writer
I wrote this poem about the eternal conflict between a writer's desire to live life fully, and his entrapment, in the habits that make him successful. My wish is, that each of you, who seek to write, strike a happy balance in your own lives. It should never be either/or. Thanks for coming by to read. On the second …

On May 5, 2021, on Morning Joe on MSNBC, the US CDC Director was asked about the terrible state of affairs in India. India is currently enduring an overwhelming wave of COVID-19 infections and deaths. Director Rochelle Walensky was asked, if she was worried about current and future variants of COVID posing a threat to the US population. Especially, …

Channeling

This poem came from sitting around too much, binge-watching too much, finding myself listless and devoid of energy. A plight, which I imagine many people find themselves in, as they try to creep forward through the slothful slog, that is this pandemic. When we realize suddenly, how very little we are accomplishing, the only thing that rescues us from …

Sparkly Things
This poem talks about how our attention is so easily distracted, by things of little importance, causing us to neglect things of value. This may be a factor of youth, or busy-ness, or indifference. Who knows. But the headline, that Howard University was cutting its classics department made me weep a little. It's like cutting off your nose, to …

Maid, Mother, Crone

Like many poems I write, this one started with a rhythm. I suppose you could say it is the rhythm of life, as girls grow up into womanhood and beyond. I hope that girls out there, whatever their current stage of life, and whatever their choices have been, will enjoy this bucolic poem, set in a simpler, but no …
