Wide-eyed, round.
True and loyal,
Like a Basset hound.
Voice, like honey.
Measured. Slow.
Wonder, just how far
You’ll go.
Hissing snake:
Cajole. Persuade.
What innocent
Mistakes He’s made.
Draw Him gallant.
Draw Him wise.
Insist, we dis-
Believe our eyes.
Round and dimpled.
Soft. Sincere.
We wonder:
Someone’s lying, here.
Fake news?
Fake facts?
Fake, made-up laws?
Fake protestations?
Fake applause?
He climbs the throne.
How regal, still.
How like the Pope:
Infallible.
