{This came to me in a sing-song way, as I went about my mundane household chores, during this otherwise quite otherworldly moment in time.Â
The Bubble Chart I refer to is the map put out by Johns Hopkins, which charts the course of the Coronavirus, as it has crept from East to West, flourishing, where ever it has landed. The virus is depicted as a series of what look like red soap bubbles. They grow bigger, as the contagion spreads, in any given area. I find it ironic–but not a bit funny–that the soap-hating virus is depicted as a series of bubbles.Â
Again, my sympathies, to all who are undergoing this enforced hermitage, and to all who have already begun to suffer the ravages of this virus. Please do your best to stay well, listen to the scientists, and be safe, as much as anyone can be, at present. And thank you, for coming by, to read.}
Another load of laundry,
Another dirty dish,
Another week of staying home,
Not doing what we wish;
Another shaft of sunshine,
Another blot of dark;
We cede control to charlatans
And pray, that they are smart;
A square of toilet paper:
As good as gold, today;
A six-foot-long light-saber,
Would protect us, from the spray;
Who’d walk among the living, knowing
They could soon be dead?
We pinch ourselves, and check for life,
And never touch our head,
While virus bubbles over,
Like an overflowing bath,
It disinfects humanity,
Reducing us, by half.
With soap, our only weapon,
And walls, our only shield,
In anxious sanctuary,
Freedom’s people, meek, besieged;
What world do we inhabit?
One, we hardly recognize:
A fearful, frozen island
In the silence of the skies.

Well penned. Reminds me of “Ring around the rosie” about the bubonic plague.
Thanks Liz. Now that’s a rhyme with staying power!
