{This is a response to Friday Fictioneers, a 100-word prompt. This week the photo contained a very interesting plant, which led to this story.
The “spell” is actually the botanical Latin name for a dragon tree. The name Drago is the common name of the same plant. Enjoy and thanks for the prompt and for reading!}
I was wondering where you went, my fledgeling dragon!
These dusty books of Olde Magick glow in the eerie darkness, behind the secret panel.
Your greenish-gold scales sparkle, too, as they home in, on any magical energy.
Such charmed books could hardly hope, to remain hidden from you.
But how will I catch you, Drago, perched on the highest shelf? Unless…
Dracaena draco! Can you resist a Shift-shape Spell? No.
Nor will you suspect, while sprouting leaves, that my botanical incantation includes no counter-curse.
Now, I have you.
Even the most pitiful human could capture a potted plant.
Enjoyed the play on words. It creates a mystical feel.
Exactly as I had hoped! Thank you Tannile!
I enjoyed this
So glad Mike!
I’m chucking my houseplants, concreting over the flower beds thanks to your story!
Might be wise in case they switch back!
Dear Andrea,
I don’t have to worry about my houseplants. They don’t stand much of a chance around me. 😉 But now that I think about it we have a 15 year old Pothos that’s taking over the living room. Good story. Imaginative.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle!
You’ve got me cautiously eyeing the Dracaena on my windowsill now.
Haha Sandra!
That was fun to read, Andrea, and I loved the last line.
