This poem reflects on what the bizarre phenomenon of COVID has done to our mental health. I know my sense of security has been knocked down a peg or two! Constant worry is not a recipe for tranquility. And isolation is not natural, to us social beings.
I hope you all are safe and continuing to vigilantly guard your health and your family’s health, even as the future begins to look brighter.
Thanks for coming by to read!Â
In an era
Of affliction,
Of swimming germs
And closeting,
Where human bodies
Wax and wane,
Deflating,
Like balloons;
Where life alone
Is typical,
And crowding
Is a crime,
And socially-
Restricted habits
Blossom,
Happy weeds;
Then, can we say
Our Minds are
Unaffected,
Are immune?
What toll was paid,
To pass the gate
To vaccinated
Safety?
What cost, to watch
Mere millions die,
This brutal
Coliseum?
Well, I, for one
Would gladly pay,
To never see
Again.

For a grim prediction of COVID’s rampage in the US, written in late 2020 when my husband had COVID, read Winter’s Toll.
I’m still afraid to go out and be amongst other people. So I don’t.
You and me both. Though I do sneak out for a hot breakfast once in a while.
I stick with my sugar cereal for breakfast. Just because I can. 😉
