My five latest posts are at the end of this newsletter, latest first. *** Hope you are doing well as the heat really sets in in my part of the world. We had a few days with temps above 100 which is rare around here. But I am hopeful that rain will be forthcoming and we will soon be back to our normal 80-95 daily temp range. My first poem reflects my gratitude for summer rain, even though it sometimes comes in the form of hurricanes down here. The poem is called Resurrection Fern and it takes you through the gray and dead-looking phase of the plant to the lush after-rain phase. Kind of a day-in-the-life in North Florida if you happen to be outside, midsummer. Which I don't recommend.:) My second poem is called Lapsed, and as you might guess, it has to do with the things you miss when you leave behind the church or belief system of your childhood, and how it never really leaves you. With all the mixing of morality and politics these days, it kind of makes me long for the black and white of olde time religion. But the influence of religion-- or a single group's morality-- on decisions that affect the whole country (or at least those with only "X" chromosomes) is not something I am eager to embrace. (See my Roe v Wade poem from last week, Dystopia Today.) Anyway, hoping things will look up and no distressing news will come before I speak to you again. Have a lovely week!
