In this poem, I imagine an older person who has lost a lot of loved ones in his or her life, and how that person feels about being left behind. Thanks for coming by to read.
I wonder why they leave me.
I wonder why they go.
I wonder why I wonder why:
I’ll never, ever know.
I wonder why they feed me
And why they love me so:
It’s like they’re watching over me,
So briefly, ‘ere they go.
They’ve left me in my mourning mist,
My somber afternoon…
The sun is o’er the yardarm now:
They’ll leave again, too soon.
How long ago we frolicked,
Our forest secrets safe!
What merely passing shadows, these,
For wastrel, and for waif!
You were the first to leave me, then,
Your parting gift, a tear.
But all the world has left me now,
And I’m still standing here.

So nice to imagine that bench, Andrea. In response to your beautifully composed Crazy Quilt, I send you this Buddhist equation:
Happiness = Present Moment – Expectations
Ommm. đ
Thank you, Andrea, for these Angels. Your poem speaks to the heart and mind of this old womanâand you are still so young!
You’re welcome Margrit! It’s in the midst of missing someone that we most feel their presence. Did I tell you we set up a bench of their own for my parents, by the lake they loved? Now they’ll have a place to sit down, whether the “visit”is by you or near their Florida home. â¤ď¸happy valentines day!
